My name is Josiah Esowe, I am a documentary, and portrait photographer, born in Nigeria, living in NYC, and trying to see and photograph as much of the world as possible without any pretentious philosophical undertones to the way I view the world.I was born in Jos, a city in the middle of Nigeria where religions and cultures from all parts of Nigeria intersect, and didn't pick up photography as an art until much later in life. Having moved to New York City in the 90s, but a few years after that my visa became invalid, and I could not return home since my family all moved to NYC to start a new life. I worked every job possible to make ends meet as an illegal immigrant, and in 2008 I became a legal resident of the United States. To this I challenged myself to visit at least 1 country every year, that challenge soon evolved to 3 or 4 countries in a year, but the process was not easy, because even though I had a green card, my Nigerian passport still limited the number of countries I could visit, with some countries flat out not granting visas to Nigerian citizens regardless of my green card.
